Docursan 1 is a disinfection cabinet that safely eliminates mould, pests and larvae from cultural heritage objects such as paper, textiles, leather, wood, ceramics and other porous materials, using temperature- and humidity-controlled program cycles. It offers a far safer alternative to nitrogen chambers and radiation-based methods.
Docursan 1 has a 7 m² capacity for materials of varying shapes, sizes and types. When used correctly, its programs treat inks, dyes, pigments, fabrics and colours without damaging them. It can be installed in any well-lit, well-ventilated room and easily adapts to a single-phase 110/220-volt system, meeting European and American standards.
Why is a disinfection solution necessary?
Paper, textiles, leather, wood and ceramics held by cultural heritage institutions can suffer irreversible damage over time from mould, pests and larvae. The conventional methods used to eliminate these pests, however, often put the object itself at risk.
Disinfection with nitrogen chambers requires a long, complex process that can take weeks, while radiation-based methods can leave lasting effects on cultural heritage materials.
