Bookkeeper is a pioneering acid-neutralization (deacidification) process that safely neutralizes acids in paper, extending its life three to five times compared with untreated paper. It safely protects manuscripts, documents, clippings, maps, posters and other paper-based materials found in modern libraries.
Tests conducted by leading research laboratories have proven the safety and effectiveness of the Bookkeeper process; the buffering agent, evenly distributed over the paper surface, was found not to disturb ink integrity or damage adhesives and cloth bindings. Archivists, librarians and conservators have relied on Bookkeeper Spray for over 30 years to safely neutralize acid in paper documents, letters, manuscripts, maps, ledgers and books.

How does Bookkeeper work?
Bookkeeper deposits a safe, non-toxic alkaline buffer within the structure of the paper. This buffer rapidly neutralizes the acids that can weaken paper and cause it to become brittle over time. To date, more than 50,000,000 sheets of paper and 8,000,000 books have been safely deacidified using Bookkeeper bulk deacidification products and Bookkeeper Spray systems.
Bookkeeper spray products are odourless and dry within minutes; they do not impede breathing, are not hazardous, toxic or flammable, and contain no CFCs (chlorofluorocarbon gases), making them entirely safe for the environment.
