Optium Museum Acrylic® is a museum-grade protective acrylic glazing with a multi-layered structure that uses technology to resolve the trade-off between protection and visibility when displaying art and historic documents. Its optical coating virtually eliminates light reflections, while its UV-filtering acrylic core forms a strong barrier against harmful rays.
Ordinary glass and standard acrylics disrupt the viewing experience with heavy reflections, leave objects unprotected from UV rays and so lead to fading and material degradation, carry a risk of breakage due to their weight, and generate static electricity that attracts dust. Optium Museum Acrylic® eliminates all of these risks with its multi-layered structure made up of an optical coating, an abrasion-resistant hard coating and a UV-filtering acrylic core.
When displaying a valuable work of art or historic document, a balance must be struck between protection and visibility. Ordinary glass and standard acrylics hide an object’s colours and fine detail behind heavy reflections, leave it unprotected from UV rays and so cause fading and material degradation, can cause irreparable damage to the artwork if broken given their weight, and generate static electricity that attracts dust.
Optium Museum Acrylic® consists of three layers, each performing a specific function: the surface optical coating virtually eliminates light reflections, the abrasion-resistant hard coating prevents scratching and wear, and the UV-filtering acrylic core, available in thicknesses from 3.0mm to 6.0mm, blocks 99% of harmful UV rays in the 300–380nm range.
For works extremely sensitive to static electricity, such as charcoal, pastel, diamond dust or textile pieces, its antistatic technology discharges static in 0.01 seconds to form a dust-repelling shield, protecting the work without damaging its texture.
Being half the weight of glass makes transport easier, while its shatter-resistant properties offer full protection against impact; its non-fragmenting structure protects both the artwork and visitors.
With the ability to be joined up to 3 by 7 metres, it creates a seamless, glare-free viewing surface for large-scale works, removing weight constraints and enabling architectural freedom.
